Another Repair Thats Probably Not Licensed / Council Have Lost PRC Certificate / CONVIENIENT
Admin, Tue 18 Aug 2009 - 12:24Hello. I found a link to this site on moneysavingexpert.com. Some family friends, who purchased (RTB) an Airey House from Charnwood Council in 1988 have a problem now because they need to raise finance on it but cannot get a mortgage. It was bought with a Council "mortgage" in 1986. We have been in correspondence with the Council to try to find out if it was missold, with insufficient advice on the availability of a mortgage on the open market, or over-valued on the assumption that there was a PRC6 certificate, but the file no longer exists (and the purchaser's solicitors have no file now either). A very substantial amount of work was done to the house in 1983, but it was not PRC6.We have approached the Council to ask them to buy the property back into their housing stock, but they have refused.
Our friends don't have the money to bring the house up to PRC6 standard (though I do have a detailed schedule of the work, I don't know what more would need to be done to reach PRC6).
We have run out of ideas, but I thought I would get in touch just in case any of this is familiar territory for you and you have any suggestions to make.
Many thanks
